The annual Cold Stream Pond Bass Derby is coming up Saturday, with the proceeds to benefit Penobscot Valley High School's Project Graduation.

I've been 'schooled' about the difference between a Bass Derby and a Tournament by my fiance, Jim, who spends many summer weekends competing. A Tournament is a catch and release event, while a derby is not. Since this is a derby, it is NOT a catch and release contest.

Fishing starts at 5:30 a.m., with the weigh-in taking place from noon to 6 p.m. at Gary  Stover Beach (the old fish hatchery/boat landing) in Enfield. Several prizes will be awarded, including $100 for the largest combined weight of bass by one angler, $50 for the 2nd largest combined weight of bass by one angler, $100 for the largest number of bass by one angler, $50 for the 2nd largest number of bass by one angler, $50 for female and male child (age 12 and under) with the largest combined weight of bass by one angler. Each participant is only eligible for one prize. All fish must be caught in Cold Stream Pond on June 25th.

In addition, there will be separate drawings on the shore for some pretty cool prizes! You could win two nights stay at Eagle Lodge and Camps at Folsom Pond, or Waterfront Concert Tickets!

Thompson's Hardware is the place to get tickets for the derby. Load up your boat and have some fun, all to help send the 2017 Senior Class at PVHS on their Project Graduation Trip! For more information, log onto the event page on Facebook.
