After yesterday's horrible video of a Maine teen being beaten by a classmate, I'm heartened today to share a story of basketball players who rushed to the defense of one of their classmates. The fact that the young lady has Downs Syndrome makes this story even more touching.

Her name is Desiree Andrews and she's a cheerleader at Lincoln Middle School in Wisconsin. During a recent game, someone in the stands was bullying her and the players heard it.  Eighth graders Chase Vasquez, Miles Rodriguez, and Scooter Therrien left the court and asked their athletic director to speak to the bullies and make them stop.

The students think so much of Desiree that they've renamed the gym. It's now known as D's House, which Desiree says is 'sweet, kind, awesome, and amazing.' I agree, D. With so much negativity these days, it's heartwarming to see people looking out for one another!
