Geaghan's in Bangor is donating a portion of their sales today to benefit the American Cancer Society through Greater Bangor Bark for Life.

The Geaghan brothers are lifetime members of the Twin Cities. I know this because they grew up just down the street from me in Brewer! It's been fun to watch their business grow, over all these years, and to see them give back to the community that has supported them. And they're at it once again today as they donate 10% of their day's take to Greater Bangor Bark for Life!

If you've never heard of the event, it's kind of like a dog-friendly version of Relay for Life. Greater Bangor Bark for Life is planned for June 3rd at the Hollywood Casino Raceway. Folks can register individually or as a team at the event's website. What sets it apart from Relay for Life is that folks are encouraged to bring their dogs, although you can still take part without one. There are laps around the track throughout the event, but it's once around the track instead of continuous motion. And many of the vendors that will be on-site will be dog-related, like groomers, trainers, and pet-friendly products. It's a lot of fun for anyone who loves dogs!

As with Relay for Life, all the money raised is donated to the American Cancer Society. Why dogs? The idea came out of a desire to show appreciation for the unconditional love and support that dogs give to cancer patients. There are plenty of events coming up before the actual walk on June 2nd. Motor Booty Affair is coming to Bangor, Mason's in Brewer is holding a dog-friendly 'Yappy Hour,' and more. We'll keep you updated here or you can check the Greater Bangor Bark for Life Facebook page!
