The Bangor Y is gearing up for its fundraising Gala and Auction next weekend. Folks can dress up, enjoy dinner, and bid on a variety of incredible items, including an African Safari!

The Y’s CEO Mike Seile says bidding for the auction this year has gone high tech.

"With Bid-Pal, the silent auction will continue right into the live auction and individuals bidding will be able to bid on electronic devices," Seile told me this week. "When they see a competitive bid happening, they will be alerted that somebody outbid them and they can compete right there from their table."

The live portion of the auction will be made even more fun with the addition of Comedian Auctioneer Ray Harrington. Seile said there are some amazing items up for bid like a complete African Safari, and All-Inclusive Bar Harbor Weekend with a Scenic Plane ride, a Baby Grand Piano, and a Golden Doodle!

All the money raised by the evening will support the Bangor Y's community programs.

"We have over 182 programs that range from youth mentoring programs on-site, busing children from area schools, we have a drop-in free after school program in the Capehart community," Mike explained. "We send a lot of children to camp on scholarship regardless of ability to pay, and we have Cancer Support Groups. We also have cardiac and pulmonary rehab, so we're really a health-conscious organization that's for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility."

The Bangor Y’s Gala and Auction will be held at the Cross Insurance Center on Saturday September 28th, thanks in part to their generous sponsors, Bangor Hydro and Bangor Savings Bank.
