The Bangor Police Department will be busy conducting OUI checkpoints over the long holiday weekend.

Sergeant Jason Stuart said in a media release that the OUI saturation patrols and checkpoints will be held around the city between now and September 4th, as part of the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety's 'Drive Sober' campaign.

So far this year, the Bangor Police Department has already made 161 OUI arrests, and there were 245 arrests in 2016. The checkpoints will be focused on the times and locations where Officers most frequently encounter drivers under the influence.

Bangor Police officers will be briefly checking sobriety and handing out the attached pamphlets in an effort to increase awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving.
