A Bangor man arrested last week for shooting his gun while naked on a residential street has been sent for psychiatric evaluation.

Stewart Gramlich, 29, was taken into custody on Patriot's Day after allegedly firing a handgun on Adams Street. He's charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.

Gramlich was remanded to the Penobscot County Jail and had a video appearance before Superior Court Justice Ann Murray on Wednesday.

At that Penobscot Judicial Center hearing, Gramlich refused to answer the judge's questions and only made grunting and groaning sounds.

Officers say he was covered with a blanket because he refused to wear clothing to the hearing.

On Thursday, Judge Murray ordered Gramlich sent for a competency evaluation after testimony from the mental health technician at the county jail that Gramlich exhibits signs of severe schizophrenia.

As of today, he is at the evaluation ward at the Maine State Prison in Warren.

If found not competent, he will likely be sent to Riverview Psychiatric Center in Augusta
