Pest control company Orkin released its annual list of the top 50 mosquito cities on Monday, and Bangor, Maine cracked the list.

The top 50 list ranks metro areas by the number of customers the company served from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.

Bangor came in at number 46, dropping 16 spots compared to its ranking a year ago.

Atlanta topped the list for the fourth year in a row, followed Washington, D.C., Chicago, New York and Miami-Ft. Lauderdale.

Twenty-one southeastern cities made the list, making the southeast the region with the most cities inside the top 50.

Orkin entomologist Mark Beavers says there are a number of things you can do to protect your home from mosquitoes.

“Female mosquitoes are attracted to a multitude of things, but the three major ones are carbon dioxide and heat when they are trying to find a blood source and moisture, usually in the form of standing water so they can lay their eggs,” Beavers said.

Beavers recommends removing standing water, controlling vegetation and installing screen windows.
