JCPenney on Friday released the list of stores that will be closed as part of its effort decrease its physical footprint and increase revenue. One Maine store is on the list.

The store at the Rockland Plaza in Rockland is the only Maine location on the list of 138 stores to close. That will leave JCPenney locations in Bangor, South Portland, Presque Isle, Waterville, and Auburn.

It was good news for the Bangor Mall, which hasn't been so lucky in recent months. Recently, both Macy's and Kmart announced they would be closing locations in and near the mall.

It's also a relief for the Maine Mall in South Portland. Earlier this month, that location was listed among the most likely stores to close, according to Morningstar Credit Ratings.

Company officials say about 5,000 jobs will be impacted with the closures nationwide. Most of the closures are planned for June, and many stores will begin the liquidation process on April 17.
