Bangor Firefighters will spend the day after Thanksgiving asking Black Friday shoppers to Fill the Boot for MDA. They will be easy to spot in their firefighting gear and holding up rubber boots for donations.

The Fill the Boot campaign is part of a 60--year-long partnership between the International Association of Firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Bangor Firefighters can be seen, with their trucks and wearing their gear, outside Bangor's Waterfront Concerts all summer long. And in the winter, they head to the Mall.

Firefighters will wear their gear on Friday and stand at the intersection of Hogan Road and Bangor Mall Boulevard from 8 a.m. until 1 or 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Bangor Firefighter and Vice-President of Local 772 Andy Willigar says they won't be going car to car, asking for donations. Motorists who have money they'd like to put in the boot should open their windows and either wave to the volunteers or call out to them, and then they'll come to your car.

Motorists are asked to be extra vigilant during that time. Especially when the light changes, be watching out for the firefighters as they quickly make their way back to the side of the road.
