One Bangor City Councilor thinks that the sale of recreational marijuana should be restricted to city-owned businesses.

According to WABI-TV, City Council Chairman Joe Baldacci suggested during Monday night's meeting that all retail pot outlets in Bangor should be city-owned. His reasoning is that it would enable the city to maintain control over the businesses, and all the tax revenue would stay local. He suggested that the city could charter a corporation and that it could make selling pot safer in Bangor.

Some of the other councilors, however, felt that it was a dangerous enterprise that could affect the city's funding and may violate federal laws. The issue will be discussed further at a meeting of the council on Monday.

We want to know what you think. Is this a good idea or is it unnecessary?
