The Bangor Police Department on Friday preemptively called for order in advance of Saturday's planned "Rally to Preserve American Traditions."

The rally is organized by a local group and will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Pierce Park next to the Bangor Public Library.

Organizers told Fox Bangor the rally is in response to the Bangor City Council's recent decision to observe Indigenous People's Day rather than Columbus Day.

No further information was immediately available about the rally, but Bangor Police issued a statement in advance of the event.

"The Bangor Police Department will have presence at the rally and will work to maintain safety for all involved," reads a news release from the department. "While the Bangor Police Department appreciates a person’s right to protest, we encourage all involved to remain peaceful and to abide by the law."

At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Harlow Street will be closed between Franklin Street and Central Street.
