The price at the pump continues to fall in advance of the Christmas holiday.

GasBuddy.com says the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Maine dipped more than 2 cents over the past week to $2.11.

The price tracking website also reports that the national average dropped to $1.99.

It’s the first time the national average has dipped below $2 since 2009.

Experts say the lower gas prices are connected to high production and lower demand during the winter months.
