Three kids from Augusta will have a police escort for Halloween night because of their creative pumpkin designs.

Sergeant Christian Behr says the Augusta Police Department held a fun program with kids in the Glenridge Drive neighborhood this year in anticipation of Halloween. The program is called 'Operation Pumpkin' and started with officers last week handing out pumpkin coloring pictures to about 25 children to color and return. Everyone who returned the picture was then given a pumpkin to carve or color, and then those pictures were posted on the Augusta Police Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, where the public was invited to vote for their favorites.

The three top winners were given a choice of going Trick or Treating with a cop or receive the costume of their choice. All three decided they'd rather spend Halloween with a police officer.  So this Monday, Augusta Police Officers will be out Trick or Treating with the three children shown in these photos with their winning pumpkins, courtesy of Stevenson Strawberry Farm. Congratulations to Iris Emond (shown with the blue pumpkin), and Ryleigh Miranda, both shown with Officer Wiggin, and to Noah Dow, shown with Officer Provisor. Great job!
