The Augusta Police Department has extended the flood warning into this evening.

In a media release, police report that the Kennebec River was at 13.2 feet, as of 5:00 this morning. Flood stage in that area is 12 feet. Flooding along Front Street has submerged cars and damaged businesses with a combination of water and ice.

For that reason, Front Street in Augusta will remain closed until further notice. Officials say the water levels in the river should continue to fall to below flood stage by late afternoon today.

We'll update this story as new details become available.
