Atkinson Man Injured In House Fire

An Atkinson man was badly burned when fire swept through his house.

Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland says 50-year-old James Wellington is being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland for severe burns. Another man, 64-year-old Craig Young, escaped uninjured. The fire at 405 Maple Road in Atkinson flattened the house and an adjacent camper just after 10 o'clock Saturday night. Investigators say the fire is not suspicious, but because of the extensive damage, the cause can't be determined.

Fire Marshals and electrical inspectors have returned to Oxford this morning to the scene of a fatal fire at an elderly housing apartment complex. A suspected electrical issue in the common area is being looked at as a possible cause. Investigators hope to have the final determination this afternoon. One woman was killed in that fire and another critically injured. Dozens of residents were also treated for smoke inhalation.
