A St. Francis man is sentenced to live in prison for the stabbing and shooting death of his girlfriend.

The BDN reports Jesse Marquis was sentenced in Caribou Superior Court on Wednesday. More than fifty family members of his victim, 31-year-old Amy Theriault, were in attendance as he heard his fate and broke out into applause and cheers as the sentence was read.

Police say 41-year-old Marquis was seen walking  in the woods with a rifle and then disappeared just before Theriault's body was discovered at her home in May of 2014. The mother of 2 had been stabbed several times and shot to death. A manhunt was launched, and it took nearly a week before he was found by a police K-9.

Marquis addressed the court at his sentencing, apologizing for Amy's death and claimed to cry 'rivers of tears' whenever he thinks of his girlfriend and her children. Prosecutors claim that she had intended to break up with him and that's why he killed her.
