Police have charged a Belfast man with murder in connection with a Wednesday night shooting that left one woman dead and her son critically wounded. Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says Lynn Arsenault died of a gunshot wound to her arm and chest.

Early Thursday morning, police appealed to the public for help in locating 44-year-old Todd Gilday, whom they considered armed and dangerous. Gilday was found at PenBay Medical Center in Rockport at about 7 a.m. Police say he had checked himself into the facility.

Police say the shooting took place inside a home at 162 Waldo Ave., which is also Route 137. At a Thursday morning news conference, police identified the victim as 55-year-old Lynn Arsenault of Garland. Arsenault was visiting her son, 22-year-old Mathew Day, who was also shot and is being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said additional charges will be filed.
