Maine's independent US Senator Angus King soundly defeated two challengers to win a second 6-year term in Washington on Tuesday night.

According to multiple national and local media organizations, King defeated Republican state senator Eric Brakey and Democratic teacher Zak Ringelstein by a wide margin, and avoided a ranked choice voting runoff.

With 44% of precincts reporting around midnight on Tuesday, King lead the race with 54%, or a little more than 162,000 votes. Both Brakey and Ringelstein conceded earlier in the evening.
