The American Folk Festival's 'Color Bangor' fundraiser is tomorrow in Bangor and, once again, I will make myself a stationary target for fistfuls of brightly colored cornstarch. I can't wait!

Color Bangor is an awesome event that's just a huge party! It's a charity walk/run to benefit the American Folk Festival, but it's so much more than that. At several points on the course, that winds through Bangor, there are 'color stations' where volunteers will toss or spray colored cornstarch onto the white t-shirt you get when you register. That white shirt very quickly becomes a rainbow of yellow, purple, green, orange, and more!

Once you complete the course, you're encouraged to hang around Color Village, which is set up on the Bangor Waterfront, where there will be music, vendors, and lots of coated people throwing clouds of color into the air. It's amazing! As a matter of fact, the Bangor Police even park a cruiser in the area that starts out clean, but quickly gets covered in color. Check out the video to see the result. Talk about a PD that gets involved in the community. Wow!

This year, as in the past two years, I will take part in the Celebrity Pelt, meaning I will stand in one place while someone runs back and forth, between me and a bucket of colored cornstarch, and tries to cover me in as much of it as possible. The first year, I was mostly purple, and last year, it was green. So much color, in fact, that my dogs bark at me when I get home!

I hope you'll join us Saturday on the Bangor Waterfront for Color Bangor. It's an amazingly fun way to start the weekend! And you're helping support the American Folk Festival, that brings international music, food, and culture to the Bangor Waterfront every August. Get more information on the American Folk Festival website and, if you haven't registered yet, stop by in the morning and register on-site.
