Adults can go to the Prom this Saturday in a fun benefit for an organization that lends support to young people and families affected by substance abuse.

Very few people will tell you that their prom was a perfect experience. I think we build it up in our minds as a magical night, and then it ends up being not much more than another school dance. The big difference is that we were all wearing fancy clothes and knew that it signified some sort of passage, either into our Senior Year of High School, or on to Graduation.

Now, you have a chance to relive your prom, only with more realistic expectations. And, as an added bonus, you can help out an awesome program that offers support to folks who are facing some tough challenges.

The Adult Prom is being held this Saturday, August 13th from 8 to midnight at the Good News Center (formerly the Acadia Christian School) in Trenton. You have to be 21 or over to attend, and it's up to you whether or not you dress up. But, hey, why not? That's a big part of the prom fun! The evening will be hosted by the current Mrs. Maine America, Jessica Snowdeal.

Proceeds from the evening, including a number of prize raffles, will benefit the Victoria's Voice Foundation. The organization is named for Victoria Siegel, who died of a drug overdose on June 6th, 2015 at her parent's home near Orlando, Florida. She was 18 years old. Her family established the Victoria's Voice Foundation as a way to remember her through showing support for other families affected by substance abuse and to save lives.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. You can purchase tickets now at Sorrento Dental Associates, The Alchemist Salon in downtown Ellsworth, and Dead River Company on Water Street. The prom is a fundraiser but also a send-off to Jessica Snowdeal, who will be competing in the Mrs. America Pageant later this month. So stop by and wish her well!
