AARP is holding an event in Bangor on Wednesday that will educate folks about the types of scams they might have contact with, and how to avoid falling victim.

Scams have become a way of life, with everything from bogus phone callers trying to get your personal information, to emails claiming that you've won hundreds of thousands of dollars. And many of these crooks target senior citizens. So AARP's Fraud Watch Network is once again holding a free event to educate the public.

Senator Susan Collins, Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, will be the keynote speaker. Also participating will be representatives from the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection, the Office of Securities, law enforcement, and AARP Maine. Morning breakout sessions will be held covering impostor scams, including the 'IRS Scam.'

The second annual 'Scam Jam' is being held on Wednesday, June 1st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Spectacular Events Center in Bangor. It's free to get in and a complimentary breakfast and buffet lunch will be provided. Organizers say they expect over 200 people to attend.
