You've probably heard by now that Leonard Nimoy passed away this week. While most people will post their favorite 'Star Trek' moments and Spock's famous lines, I wanted to post one of my favorite Nimoy bits that has nothing to do with his most famous character.

I grew up with 'Star Trek.' Not 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' or 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,' or any of the morphs of the series that came after. My brothers and I would watch James T. Kirk, Scotty, and, of course, Mr. Spock. My favorite episode is 'The Trouble With Tribbles!'

The day that the first movie came out, my then-husband and I were in the audience. And we laughed when the kids in front of us were surprised to hear us reciting the opening, along with the announcer. They had no idea it had ever been a TV series!

And, yes, I cried when Spock died in the movies. It was truly one of the saddest scenes ever. I know there will be a lot of replays of that scene, after Leonard Nimoy's death. But, for me, I also love the man he became after Spock. Nimoy struggled with the stereotype of that role for years. So he must have loved when the Bruno Mars opportunity came up with the video for 'The Lazy Song.' This crotchety old man is NOT Spock!

Leonard Nimoy passed away at home on Friday morning of end- stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83 years old. Rest in peace, sir. The many will mourn the passing of the one.
