An 89-year-old man from Belfast has located after getting lost in the woods behind his home Tuesday night. The Warden Service says he was cold but, otherwise, in good health.

According to family, Ulmer Russ had taken off for an ATV ride behind his home at around 6:30 Tuesday evening. When he hadn't returned by 8:15, family members started looking for him. But when they were unable to find him, they called for help.

Canine handlers from the Maine Warden Service, MASARD (Maine Association of Search and Rescue Dogs), Belfast Police, and Waldo County Sheriff’s Office responded. Belfast Fire Department also assisted.

Just before 4:00 Wednesday morning, retired Game Warden and current MASARD member Deborah Palmen and her K-9 located Russ. He had become lost after leaving his ATV to inspect a recent logging operation. Officials say he was cold but otherwise in good health. Russ was taken to Waldo County General Hospital for evaluation.
