A woman was charged with endangering a child after her 3-year-old son was found lying in a drainage ditch in Rockland, police said.

The boy was found by a passerby around 6 p.m. on Saturday, reports WABI-TV.

The child's mother, Mandy Dennison, 27, was located in an apartment on Rankin Street.

When officers arrived at the apartment, the front door was open, and Dennison was asleep, according to police.

Police say Dennison had taken an anti-anxiety drug that was not prescribed to her, and they had a hard time waking her up.

After being arrested and posting bail, Dennison was re-arrested when she was caught with more drugs that were not prescribed to her during a bail check, according to police.

Dennison is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violating conditions of release.

The boy is staying with his grandmother.
