The American Red Cross reports that 18 people were displaced by a fire this morning at the Deerfield Apartments on Ohio Street in Bangor. A total of 12 apartments were impacted.

A passerby reported the fire just before 8 o'clock Monday morning and that, combined with the quick response of the Bangor Fire Department prevented any injuries. Damage was heaviest on the third floor where flames were visible, with damage lessening as you get closer to the ground.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire but the building just recently had a new roof put on. All the tenants made it out safely however it's reported that several cats were missing directly after the fire.

Crews from Bangor, Brewer, and Orono responded to the fire. The Red Cross Disaster Relief Services is providing emergency shelter, food, and clothing. If you'd like to make a donation to disaster relief, it can be sent to the American Red Cross of Maine, 145 Exchange Street,Suite 1, Bangor, ME 04401
