A 17-year-old woman died, and three people were injured in a single-car crash Tuesday night in Augusta.

Deputy Chief Jared Mills says the accident happened at 6:30 Tuesday evening on Eastern Avenue in Augusta. A Mazda MZ3 was traveling east when the driver, 19-year-old Darrien Allard of Sidney, lost control of the vehicle. It exited the roadway and collided with the culvert on the side of the road, causing extensive damage to the car.

Central Maine Newspapers is reporting that the victim's name is Lily M. Swearingen, 17, of Auburn.

Allard and two other passengers in the car were taken to MaineGeneral in Augusta to be treated for injuries. It's not clear how badly they were hurt.

The accident is being reconstructed by the Maine State Police. More details will become available once police determine the cause and contributing factors in the crash.
