I'm always running late, and it's always my own fault.

Luckily the Queen City offers some obstacles that are also great (and believable) excuses for being late!

"There is a Waterfront Concert tonight."

An increase in vehicle and foot traffic comes with the Waterfront shows making Main St. stop and go traffic and can create delays.

"Got stuck in Union St. bridge construction."

Are they ever going to finish this work! It began around April 2014 and was expected to last 2.5 years but it seems like it's never going to end!

"I circled downtown 3 times before I found a parking spot."

Depending on the day and time you can spend more than 5 minutes just looking for a place to park! So if you have a meeting or appointment we recommend arriving in downtown at least 15 minutes ahead of time, because once you find a spot, you might still have to walk!

"I saw Stephen King outside his house and had to get a picture."

Because King spends half his year in Florida it is a real treat for even the locals when he makes an appearance around town. Being late because you had to get a photo of the rare sighting is totally excusable.

"I got stuck behind parents dropping off their kids at John Bapst."

If you have ever gone though the section of Broadway near John Bapst Memorial High School around 7 in the morning you probably know of the mayhem of cars and kids. Delays here get worse around graduation when the seniors take over the dividing median.

"I was stuck at a red light for 5 actual minutes."

There are a few Bangor lights that come to mind here. Pulling out of Stillwater onto Broadway and the lights at Broadway and Garland St. have had me wait for literally 5 minutes. I'm one of those people who refuses to run long red lights so instead I get honked at repeatedly. It's not me! It's the lights!

"I got stuck behind a snow plow."

It's true you probably shouldn't be going faster than a snow plow when the roads are snowy, but sometimes they are just going too dang slow! Of course we appreciate all they do and don't want them to stop but you are not getting anywhere fast if you get behind one.

"The Paul Bunyan statue came to life and blocked Main St. traffic."

Ok, so this one might be a little silly. But this did happen in Stephen King's book "IT". In the book the statue comes to life and attacks Richie Tozier so we are waiting for the day he comes to life and attacks Main St. traffic!

"The drive thru line at Dunkin was spilling onto Main St."

You can't go to work without your morning coffee, so sometimes you have to be late because you had to wait in the drive thru line, even if it is spilling into the street.

"My car was underwater in Kenduskeag Plaza."

True Bangor residents know not to park here when we get heavy rain, but those from away might make the mistake of parking right next to Kenduskeag stream. Of course the plaza hasn't been completely flooded since the 70's but there are still parking bans and signs suggesting caution, so you can use flooding as an excuse.

"My tire fell off in a pot hole on Center St."

This is just one example of many roads in the Bangor area with potholes the size of craters on mars. Change Center St. to what ever road roads best for you.

"The guy ahead of me was going 5 mph past Dave's Movie Center."

This one is probably the most believable excuses on the list. Admit it, you have been the guy going 5 m.p.h. as you drive by. But hey, you need to know what all the ladies in Bangor are wearing this season!
