One of three girls critically injured when the SUV they were riding in was struck by a dump truck Monday morning in Gorham has died, school officials said.

According to a letter from Gorham Assistant Superintendent Chris Record, the girl was pronounced dead Wednesday night, WGME reports.

“Our hearts go out to the family, neighbors, community members, students and school personnel that are grieving this tragic loss,” Record said.

The girl was a fifth-grader at Narragansett Elementary School.

Her father, Joe Piawlock, 45, was pronounced dead at the scene, Narragansett Street.

Police said the man's wife, Yvonne Piawlock, 39, was driving the SUV in the snow when she lost control of the vehicle, crossing into the oncoming lane and into the path of the dump truck.

Yvonne Piawlock suffered minor injuries. The girls were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Record said school counselors and social workers are offering support to students and staff.
